How to Write Calligraphy: A Style that’s Write for You

For anyone that is interested in learning how to write calligraphy, you should know that calligraphy is considered a form of art in which you create elegant and beautiful handwriting with the use of special calligraphy pens that have nibs on the ends that you dip in ink or calligraphy markers that are specially made for this purpose.

There are many ways to learn how to write calligraphy including taking classes from your local arts and crafts store, hobby shops, community college, reading books, private calligraphy lessons with an art teacher, online classes, or do it yourself online tutorials. You need to decide which type of learning process would work best for you as calligraphy, while it is fun to learn, often takes patience, repetition, and can be time consuming.

You can find calligraphy in many different styles, sizes of font, languages, and different cultures. There is Chinese calligraphy, Arabic calligraphy, Japanese calligraphy, and many more. Today calligraphy is used on business cards and logos, advertisements, invitations for different occasions, and various forms of art by artists.

The type of calligraphy you choose to write will determine the type of calligraphy supplies that you will need to purchase. There are different types of calligraphy pens; you have your choice of plume pens that you dip in ink, or gel pens that you fill with ink cartridges. There are also different types of nibs from wide nibs that produce wide letters, to slender nibs that are used for fine print.

They usually offer a wide variety of classes from beginner to advance, along with a large selection of supplies to choose from. They can help you in selecting the supplies that you need in order to write calligraphy and some of them will even let you try out the calligraphy supplies to see if you like them or not.

You will find that the calligraphy pens will differ in size and weight, so how they fit and feel in your hand is very important. So it’s best if you can try them out before you purchase them. There are many calligraphy kits sold in packages, usually a couple of pens, some nibs, and some ink are included. If you plan on buying a kit when you first get started, be sure you like the style of pen before you purchase the kit.

You can even try checking out the different styles of calligraphy in your local library. This is a great way to see all the different styles of calligraphy and learn a little history on calligraphy while you at it while you’re figuring out what type of calligraphy you would like to learn how to write. One other way to see what calligraphy you would like to learn how to write is to pick up samples that you like when you see them. If you don’t know what type of calligraphy they are, just take them with you to your calligraphy class and they will be able to tell you.
